Haines is located on the old highway between LaGrande and Baker City. Despite the interstate highway bypassing it the town remains prosperous. It is bisected by the railroad, a testament to days when the railroad was more important than the highway. Their fourth of July video on youtube gives a great look at a small town. The town's most famous business is the Haines Steakhouse. Even people in western Oregon know about it.
