Goble
Although my pictures make one think of logging and fishing as key to Goble's history the real story is about railroads. I could not, however, find a single railroad artifact for a picture. Daniel Goble settled the area in 1853 shortly before statehood and some think that Lewis and Clark camped here. A train ferry connected Portland to Seattle before the first highway bridge crossed the Columbia making Goble a boomtown in the late 1800's. Now the lone sign of life is the Goble Tavern and those folks certainly seem to have a good time with their business. They have additonal pictures on their web site so check them out!
Pictures of Goble
Some time has passed since last she rode the waves but remnants of her sails still droop from the mast.
Gypo loggers used this type of rig when I was a kid. The trick was to keep both engines in operable condition.
I suppose Noah's ark was larger, but it did not boast a power pole for a main mast!
