Pacific City is at the southern end of the Three Capes Scenic route with cape Kiwanda being at Pacific City, Cape Lookout just to the north, and beyond that, Cape Mears with its great lighthouse. Great beach fun is available here only about two hours from Portland and Salem. While the focus is on the beach in Pacific City you can find a good ice cream cone, a latte, and a few antiques in town. Most of the homes have great views of the Pacific. The protection provided by Cape Kiwanda and Haystack rock allow the Pacific dory fleet to operate directly from the beach. I have yet to go out on one of these boats, but have taken a similar trip many times in Playita, B.C.S. where they land in a similar fashion.
