North Powder
The North Powder river flows thru this little town on it way eastward to the Snake river. The I-84 freeway is only a short distance away, but . Established about 1865 the town survived on rail road activity and lumber milling. Up until 1930 an ice house provided ice to the Pacific Fruit Express. Fire claimed that operation.
This building in North Powder shows the turn-of-the-century (est. 1889) stone working skills
that were available in Oregon. Unfortunately time has taken its toll here. Perhaps help
will arrive before it is too late.
Glennette likes the cemeteries better than I but I still really like this picture. Think of all
the history that lies here under that blanket of snow! (January 2001)
