Lafayette
This little town, in the heart of Yamhill county wine country, is best known for the Lafayette School House Antique Mall. This mall is one of a chain of four malls which are all excellent. If you like antique shopping this is a very nice stop.
Only a short distance south of town near the McMinnville airport is the new air museum that houses the famous Spruce Goose airplane built and flown (once) by Howard Hughes. This is the largest wooden airplane ever built and so the new museum is very large also. The museum was in the final stages of construction in December, 2000 when I took the photo so check for an opening date before you go. (Now expanded to four huge buildings--06/01/2010)
