Halsey

Halsey was formally founded in 1871 although the whole central Willamette valley had filled with settlers decades before.  This is another one of the towns that grew up on the north-south railroad line. In fact the city takes its name from an officer of the Oregon & California railroad, William L. Halsey.  Like several other small oregon towns fire devestated it around the turn of the prior century (1903). A quick look around down town will tell you they were in no rush to rebuild.
