Gates
The heart of the Santiam corridor was ripped out when the spotted owl movement shut down logging in the area. The traffic on Highway 22 barely slows on its way from the valley to central Oregon. Not much is left in Gates, but the town shows signs of civic pride. The Santiam River is the county line here so Gates sits part in Marion and part in Linn county giving it I suppose a bit of a split personality. The Santiam river is a real treasure and enough to assure the towns future.
