Fossil
We never thought of Fossil as a biker town but when we arrived on Memorial day weekend we were in for a surprise! Fossil was swarming with bikers in town for a convention of some sort. I suppose the rest of the year it is a sleepy little town, but on this special weekend the place was alive. Merchants had prepared special events and facilities and everyone was having a good time.
This is most of the town of Fossil. That decrepit looking motor home on the right is ours. It only gets about 7 miles to the gallon, but our Basset hound "Blue" likes it when we can bring him along.
You can check out every model of Harley, chopper, or Gold Wing in Fossil on Memorial day weekend.
The Baptist Church was established in Fossil in 1885, or so the sign says. Seems to be in use every Sunday.
This old Victorian probably has been around as long as the Baptist church.
I guess City Hall is not the most important building in town. Not only do they have the Library and
Fire Department in the same building, they must have had some surplus pink paint!
This one mural shows more activity than goes on in Fossil in a year. The town has regressed a bit.
We did not actually see any bikers in the Museum. I think they just needed a place to park.
Historic preservation has arrived in Fossil and the townspeople have establish a very interesting
and informative display around this old school house.
This is the actual school house, complete with hitchin' post.
Zounds! Look at this stately building. This is the Wheeler county courthouse. I wonder how they
beat out Spray for the job? Check out the courthouse in Enterprise for a stark contrast in architectural styles.
We actually took this picture in Netarts on the Oregon coast. Look like these ranchers get around!
