They do not make cars here. This is high mountain recreation country. Detroit sits on the upper end of Detroit Reservoir on the beautiful Santiam river. The economy used to be timber and milling, but now it is recreation. Fishing, boating and relaxing are the principle activities here. Detroit is also a nice stop even if you are just passing through. It has a good supply of restaurants, stores and services. Detroit also is close to Breitenbush hot springs featuring hot baths and a slow pace to life.
